Policy on Acceptable Use of Technology at Santa Lucia School

PURPOSE:

Santa Lucia School provides computers, software, digital cameras, and Internet access to students for the purpose of learning.  Students are encouraged to use these resources in a safe and respectful manner.  Students are expected to follow these rules to keep the privilege of using the Santa Lucia School technology equipment and services.


RULES FOR USING COMPUTERS/EQUIPMENT AT SANTA LUCIA SCHOOL:

Students, parents, alumni and the community have spent a lot of time and money so that Santa Lucia School can have computers, software, digital camera, and the Internet.  To keep this equipment safe and operable, students are asked to follow these rules:

  1. Do not use anyone else's disk, floppy, or memory flash drive.
  2. Do not enter a computer lab or use a computer in a classroom unless a teacher is in the room.
  3. Only use the program(s) the teacher tells you to use.
  4. Do not read anyone else' documents.
  5. Do not open the CD drives.
  6. Do not have magnets near any school computers.
  7. Do not have food or drinks near any school computers.
  8. Do not turn off the computers.
  9. Do not change any configurations on the desktop screen, screen savers, etc.
  10. The digital camera may be used for newspaper projects or teacher use only.  Return camera to the third grade when finished.


RULES FOR USING THE INTERNET AT SANTA LUCIA SCHOOL:

It is very important that students follow the rules when on the Internet.  If students do not follow these rules, they will not be allowed to use the Internet at Santa Lucia School.

  1. Do not go on the Internet without a teacher in the room.
  2. Do not go on Websites that are not assigned by the teacher.
  3. If you accidentally find yourself at a website that you think might be inappropriate for children, notify your teacher immediately.  Do not notify any other students.
  4. Do not give out any personal information, like last name, address, phone number, or email address without checking with your teacher first.
  5. Do not check or send any emails, unless specifically told so by a teacher.
  6. Do not download anything off the Internet.
  7. Do not give password information to anyone.
  8. Do not plagiarize. If you quote another document or use information that is not commonly known, then you must provide your source in a footnote and/or bibliography.


GENERAL RULES:

  1. Students are responsible for their actions in the computer lab and at room computers at Santa Lucia School.
  2. Santa Lucia School may read, delete, or change anything students write while in the computer lab or at room computers.
  3. Students must agree that if they do not follow these rules, they will not be allowed to use the computers, software, camera, or Internet at Santa Lucia School.
